Watt turns on the power for OAs
OLD Albanian’s somewhat slow start to this new season was given a sizeable fillip with this timely victory over tabletopping DMP.
Albanians went into a confident 13-point lead when a great break in midfield gave Tom Bednall space on the right – Dan Watts converting before kicking two penalties.
Brett Connon replied with two of his own before Greg White’s yellow card and, a man down, Albanian conceded 12 points when Adam Radwan and Brandon Asher-Wood crossed the whitewash – Connnon converting the first.
Restored to full strength into the second period As regained the initiative and Reuben Bird-Tulloch’s superb floated pass gave Bednall his second opportunity – Watts converting to retake the lead.
Connon and Watts then exchanged penalties as the match entered its nerve-wracked ending.
First Bird-Tulloch barrelled through two despairing tackles for Watts to convert but, back to 14 men, Albanians conceded a penalty and a try from the otherwise dominant scrum.
Connon again put DMP in front by a point. But with Watts in the bin it was left to Bednall to convert the winning penalty from 35 metres moments before the final whistle.
