Lions run riot for second triumph in a row

- ■ By ANDY MOORE

LEICESTER Lions hit six tries in a thumping home win over Otley to make it two wins on the bounce after a poor start to the season.

A bright start from the Lions was rewarded in the 12th minute when Ian Smith went over for a try after a beautifully timed pass from Jon Boden, with James Morgan adding the conversion.

The home team doubled the score just five minutes later as Drew Rudkin was the recipient of another pinpoint pass to go over, with Boden adding the conversion for a 14-0 lead.

Otley hit back through Frederick Watson who was on the end of a powerful scrum deep in the Lions 22, with Rowntree adding the conversion.

Just before half-time, Lions extended their lead as Morgan side-stepped a tackle to add a third try with Boden again adding the conversion for a 21-7 lead at the break.

Two early Rowntree penalties for Otley cut the Lions’ lead but that was as good as it got for the visitors as two tries from Henry Clement saw the home team earn the bonus point, with the replacement’s speed causing problems late in the second half.

A final try from the Lions finished the performance off in style with Morgan adding his second of the game late on to secure a bonus point 38-13 victory as the hosts moved into the top half of the table.
