TREBANOS staged a major second half recovery at Cardiff Met to overturn a ten point deficit to run out 34-10 victors.

The students, still understrength during the BUCS Super League period, got off to a flying with an early try and also added a penalty in a tight first-half. Then the floodgates opened as Trebanos scored five second half tries.

It was a penalty try that got them started and then back rower Ben Williams, prop Tyler Murvai, ex-Cyncoed student and wing Sam Davies and hooker Elliot Greenaway got over the line to bag another bonus point. Full-back Matthew Edwards added two conversions and a penalty.

Tata Steel stayed tied on 21 points with Trebanos in second place in the table thanks to a 47-5 home win over Glynneath, while

Skewen are in fourth place after their 40-21 bonuspoint triumph at home over Newbridge. Beddau gave Pontypool plenty to think about in the opening exchanges at Pontypool Park as they raced into a ten point lead. After that, though, it was one way traffic until they grabbed a late consolation.

The home side made it six of the best at the start of their title defence to ensure they stayed eight points clear at the top. Having shipped ten points early on through tries from Ethan Davies and Rob Nash for a 12-10 lead.

The second half saw the champions run riot with eight more tries. Davies and Nash got one more each and Clayton Gullis marked his 100th appearance with a try.

Newcastle Emlyn skipper Alex Williams scored a first half try to go with a Dan Davies penalty that gave his side an 8-6 interval lead over visiting Rydyfelin. Dai Gratton kicked two penalties in each half for the newly promoted side to give them a 12-8 advantage but then Newcastle launched a telling move that ended with wing Llyr Jones stealing the glory with a try to seal a 13-12 win to move them seven points clear of the drop zone.
