Bonus points have be­come too cheap

THE speed­ing up of the game seems to have made scor­ing four tries eas­ier, par­tic­u­larly in the leagues be­low the Premier­ship. So many teams get well beaten but still score them.

Time to do as the French have done for sev­eral years whereby the ex­tra point is ob­tain­able only by scor­ing three more tries than the op­po­si­tion.

Also, twice in tele­vised matches last week­end I saw ad­van­tage had been played for foul play (high tackle).The ad­van­tage re­sulted in the nonof­fend­ing team scor­ing a try af­ter sev­eral phases. But surely a penalty on the half-way line should be awarded there­after as it is still foul play and not a tech­ni­cal of­fence?
