May’s the best says delighted O’Connor
AFTER seeing Jonny May grab his sixth Leicester try in six games, Tigers boss Matt O’Connor said: “He’s easily the best finisher in England. He’s a threat, he’s defensively very good, he’s committed and he’s taking his opportunities.”
George Ford and Matt Toomua’s midfield partnership continues to burgeon, with O’Connor adding: “They’re both fantastic young men who are working incredibly hard on their game. They’re demonstrating that we can really challenge defences with the width we can get on the game and they’re only going to get better.”
O’Connor was not entirely satisfied, though, saying: “There were a lot of promising performances with Will Evans, Gareth Owen and George McGuigan putting themselves forward for Europe, but we need to work on our finishing.”
Despite another slow start, Irish look anything but relegation fodder. Skipper David Paice said: “The culture of our squad is a lot better and the way we’re finishing games is a huge testament to our character. When we get this right we’ll improve a lot. This is going to be one of the most satisfying periods of my career.”
