PLYMOUTH had to step up a gear to fend off a valiant second-half display from Caldy.

The travelling Albion supporters were the 16th man in this hard-fought contest, in which the highflyers proved their quality on a perfect afternoon.

The game started as usual for Caldy by conceding two early tries through ill-discipline and Plymouth’s enviable setpiece excellence.

This went on to become their match-winning formula as they proceeded to hammer Caldy from short range.

Sam Dickinson brought Caldy back into the game with a quick dart from the base of the scrum leaving the halftime score at 12-7.

The second-half start from Caldy was strong. The elusive Rhys Hayes produced the try of the match as he flicked a pass out to put Nick Royle under the sticks.

Plymouth replied clinically through Herbie Stupple and Will Norton after further penalty decisions went against Caldy.

It was a courageous final 20 minutes from Caldy as they fought to save a losing bonus point, but a further try from Stupple confirmed the victory for Albion.

Caldy competed, but it was Plymouth’s exceptional set-piece ability which ultimately continued their march towards a top spot.
