Harvey’s double inspires ruthless Hinckley

- ■ By TOM GALLAGHER

STEVE HARVEY scored two tries as Hinckley earned a bonus-point win in an enthralling battle with Sheffield at Leicester Road.

Harvey scored the first try of the match in just the second minute, despite a slow start by the hosts which saw them concede multiple penalties.

But three minutes later Sheffield responded through two Steve Depledge penalties.

The action-packed first half continued to impress as a lineout for Hinckley at the five-metre line resulted in Alex Salt touching down and a conversion from Joe Wilson put them in front.

In a see-saw game, the away side replied three minutes later through another Depledge penalty.

Hinckley’s ruthlessness at lineouts continued as Wilson dotted down and he converted it himself to make it 19-12.

With the first half nearing a close, Sheffield winger Rupert Broadley scored before Depledge’s conversion tied the score but Hinckley took the lead through Harvey’s second try on the brink of halftime.

And they extended that after the break as Sam Diver crossed at the end of a sweeping move following another lineout.

Depledge reduced the gap to seven points with another penalty but the hosts rounded it off late on as Luke Coltman dotted down at the end of a disappointing second half where the weather wreaked havoc and ruined the spectacle.
