Wasps find their form with decisive victory

- ■ By WILL THOMPSON

WASPS put seven tries past Loughborough in a onesided beating to claim their second win of the season.

The scoring was eventually opened after Louise Dodd made a great run through the middle and span it out wide to Tova Derk, who raced down the touchline past the last defender and touched down beneath the posts.

Wasps then doubled their lead ten minutes later as England international Harriet Millar-Mills finished under the posts following a spell of intense pressure to take them into half-time two tries up.

Wasps stepped up a gear in the second half and capitalised on Loughborough losing a player to the sin bin. Within those ten minutes, Danielle Waterman scored two along with Vicki Jackson also touching down in quick succession. Natasha Jones managed to run in a consolation try for Loughborough following sustained pressure on Wasps’ line.

But the hosts added more points through a great offload and equally impressive pick-up from Dodd, who ran in under the posts and converted her own try.

To complete the clinical performance, Wasps scored again straight from the kick off as Kayinsola Adefemiwa-Afilaka offloaded to Millar-Mills, who then popped the ball off to winger Katie Alder, who burst down the right-hand side and slid over in the corner.

Loughborough made a few last-ditch attempts at some points in the last ten minutes but Wasps showed great defence with some try-saving tackles to keep the score at 45-5, reflecting their dominant display on a potentially season-changing afternoon.
