It’s panic stations as Bury see lead dwindle

- ■ By SIMON LORD

WORTHING scored 15 points in the final five minutes to add to the 15 they scored in the opening 20 minutes to give Bury a scare.

Sandwiched between those points, Bury dominated the middle part of the match, scoring five unanswered tries.

Matt Maclean’s decision to kick a penalty with the last play of the match earned Worthing two deserved bonus points in an entertaining affair.

Last season, Bury’s Matt Harrison and Worthing’s Harry Forest were playing in the same school side. Here, they were rivals. However they were outshone by Bury skipper and fly-half Liam McBride, who orchestrated all that was good for his side.

Worthing flanker Kemp Price scored two first half tries, the first a result of a fortuitous bounce, wrong footing Chris Lord, the second, up in support of a Maclean break.

From 15-3 down, Bury slowly got back on terms and were level by the interval. Dan Swithenbank and Sean Stapleton both forced their way over from close range and McBride’s conversion made it 15-15

Bury were totally in control after the break. Dwayne Corcoran grabbed two and Boyd Rouse forced his way over from close range as The Wolfpack went through the gears.

However, as Bury wound down 22 points to the good, they were almost made to pay. Price completed his hat-trick and Walsh added to it three minutes later.
