Bury on fire after trailing at the interval

- ■ By JAKE WILSON

BURY St Edmunds launched a stunning second-half comeback to overhaul a 16-point halftime deficit and earn a remarkable bonus point victory away to Canterbury.

Trailing 21-5 at the break after three first-half tries for the hosts, Bury replied with four tries of their own in the second period with Brendan Mitchell going over with two minutes left to seal the win.

Second row William Scholes had put Bury ahead with a fourthminute try, but after that positive start, the first 40 belonged to Canterbury.

Jonathan Murray levelled the scores with 11 minutes played and Oliver Best’s conversion put them ahead for the first time.

Further tries from flyhalf Best and winger Barney Howard kept the Canterbury momentum flowing as they extended their advantage.

The second half was a complete turnaround as Canterbury failed to add to their points tally and Bury took full control.

First, winger Conan Osborne dotted down to reduce the deficit, with Dwayne Corcoran’s converted try bringing the visitors back within two points at 21-19.

And they completed the remarkable comeback as replacement Chris Lord then went over to regain the lead for Bury.

And that left just enough time for flanker Mitchell sealing win with a score in the 78th minute.
