Bragging rights for battling Ravens after fiery encounter

- ■ By CARL FIELD

A GLUT of yellow cards and one red for Bridgend skipper Adam O’Driscoll marred a controversial bonus-point win for Bridgend Ravens.

Aberavon started with a bang and were ahead inside two minutes when wing Jay Baker was sent through, with fly-half James Garland adding the extras.

But the Ravens levelled matters on ten minutes when the ball broke loose in midfield with wing Aaron Grabham chasing his own kick before diving over the line and No.10 Ryan Evans converting.

Three Evans penalties saw the hosts lead 16-7 at the break.

And they extended it ten minutes into second half when they were awarded a penalty try but back came Aberavon moments later with Garland darting over and adding the extras himself to pull the score back to 23-14.

However a third Bridgend try followed with lock Keiran Martin barging over. Bridgend were then down to 13 with hooker Iestyn Merriman and prop Garyn Daniel yellow carded before the tension spilled over with O’Driscoll seeing red and Aberavon pair Joe Tomalin-Reeves and Ieuan Davies both getting sin-binned for their part in a punch-up.

Evans was also yellow carded in what were almost 15 minutes of injury time.

Baker scored again for Aberavon, before replacement hooker Thomas finished it off for the Ravens. Star man Ryan Evans - Bridgend Ravens
