Rhondda move top thanks to Clayton try-double

CHRIS Clayton was at the double to help Ystrad

Rhondda to a 32-5 home victory over Heol y Cyw –a result that sent them top of One East Central in the only Division One match to be played yesterday – with the focus instead turning to the National Plate and Bowl competitio­ns..

Ryan Howells, Gerwyn Davies and Adam Lewis also crossed the whitewash in a five-star performanc­e while Corey Shephard added two conversion­s a penalty.

Ystrad were already safely through having been handed a walkover against

Dolgellau. In the pick of some of the second round ties in the Plate, Max Jones and Ryan Davies both bagged hat-tricks as holders Penallta cruised into the next round as they beat

Tondu to a 39-33 win over Carmarthen Athletic.

Jacob Lloyd (2), Josh Clarke, Wayne Davies, Josh Collins and Cory Dunn all scored for Treorchy on their way to a 34-26 win over

Resolven to make it through. In the Bowl third round,

Taffs Well beat Burry Port 23-16 – and gained revenge for defeat in the 2016 final. Justin Jones and Rhys Watkins went over the for the Wellmen with Brandon Thrasher converting both tries and also booting three penalties.

Porthcawl are into round four after winning 16-10 at 2013 winners Wattstown. Skipper Richard Hynda and Ben Asprea got the Porthcawl tries with Ben Thomas adding two penalties.
