Kings hit by Ulster late try burst

-

ULSTER needed three tries in the last 11 minutes to rescue victory in Port Elizabeth.

The home side looked to be on their way to a first PRO14 win as they led by seven points in the final quarter, but Andrew Trimble, Clive Ross and Robbie Diack scored late on to take the win.

This was a game littered with terrible defending and breathtaking attack play, but Kings will feel shortchanged to have taken only two bonus points from their eighth straight defeat.

“We were disappointed with a few errors, but you have to take your hat off to Kings. They were very, very driven today,” said Ulster boss Les Kiss.

After losing to Leinster last week, and suffering consecutive away defeats to Zebre and La Rochelle, the pressure was on Kiss and his Ulster side to perform. Perhaps with that recent history, they’ll be delighted with five points.

Berton Klaasen and Yaw Penxe breached the porous Ulster defence inside the first seven minutes, and only some poor handling prevented Kings scoring more.

Ulster hit back through Sean Reidy after 19 minute and John Andrew followed suit 13 minutes from halftime, but Michael Makase scored number three for Kings for a 22-10 interval lead.

Ulster improved after the restart and Andrew mauled over his second try after 50 minutes, while John Cooney levelled matters soon after.

Klassen looked to have clinched the win for Kings with 17 minutes left, but Ulster finished strongly.
