A WELL drilledWasps side moved up to third in the league after overcoming Firwood Waterloo.

Travelling to Twyford Sports Park, the north-west side were looking to build on the performance against one of the leading teams in the Tyrrells Premier 15s.

The first half was a game of set piece play, with mistakes by both teams seeing forwards dominating the possession.

The visitors controlled much of the play for the opening minutes of the game but came up against a solid Wasps defence.

A turnover from Wasps with quick passing through the backs saw the home side take the first try through Abby Dow.

Firwood Waterloo answered with a penalty, Beth Stott confidently slotting home to take the score to 5-3.

Again, Firwood pushed the home side’s defence but following phases of good attacking play Wasps again regained possession and Dow broke through the line to cross the whitewash, taking the game to 10-3 at half time.

Danielle Waterman dotted down for Wasps’ third try four minutes into the second half with Dow kicking the extras from the tee to make it 17-3.

Kate Alder then found a gap and burst through for the bonus point score for the hosts.

A penalty try for Wasps further demonstrated their clinical edge which proved to be the difference.

The home side's quick and skilful backs were able to take their chances efficiently, regularly turning their line breaks into scores. Waterloo’s continued pressing towards the end but were unable to add to their score.
