Cleall makes amends as Saracens march on

- ■ By LAURA EDDIE

SARACENS remained unbeaten in the Premier 15s competition with a fivetry triumph over Bristol.

The visitors opened the scoring with a try after 18 minutes after Poppy Cleall was sent to the sin bin for Saracens.

The extra player made all the difference and Lucy Attwood squeezed between two defenders to score, Reed converted.

Kat Evans pulled a score back for Saracens after 27 minutes but in a close and physical encounter neither side was able to add to their tally in the first half as it ended 7-5 to the visitors.

Ellena Perry powered over from close range for the hosts just three minutes into the second half and Lottie Clapp extended Saracens’ advantage to ten points soon after.

Player of the match Marlie Packer, the league’s leading try scorer, added to her tally as she spun out of a Bristol tackle to go over and make the score 22-7 after an hour.

And Saracens’ second half dominance continued as Cleall went over for her second of the afternoon to make it 29-7 to the home side with six minutes left to play.

Bristol, who had battled so valiantly in the first half, left with a consolation score through Lagi Tuima as the visitors took full advantage of numbers out wide. Saracens though continue to look like potential league winners with their showdown on December 3 against Harlequins looking more and more like a title decider with every week.

Next though, they must beat Darlington Mowden Park Sharks at Allianz Park while Bristol prepare for the visit of Loughborough Lightning to Cleve RFC.
