SOUTH Leicester ran out victors against Otley in a ten-try thriller.

The home side came out of the blocks quickly, with Adam Shaw capitalising on a break from Corey Venus to score under the posts.

Tom Hodson responded with a penalty for Otley before the visitors took the lead with Jack Scott-Paul crossing out wide. Myles Bean restored South’s advantage by finishing in the corner after a floated pass from Rickie Aley.

Otley scored their second try midway through the opening period when Ben Steele emerged from the bottom of a maul to score, but South answered again through Venus.

The home side then moved themselves further ahead with a try from Reece Harris but the travelling side pulled a try back through Brett Mitchell on the stroke of half-time.

After a cagey start to the second half, Aley added a penalty with a quarter of the game remaining to extend South Leicester’s lead to 17 points.

South’s William Ward was sent to the bin and Otley capitalised with a penalty try at the resulting scrum.

But the hosts made the game safe with four minutes left on the clock, great work from Aley allowing Bean to cross the wshitewash and score his second and take the match out of Otley’s grasp.

Alex Beaumont added a consolation for the spirited visitors with four minutes left.
