Hoppers leave it late to grab crucial try

PRESTON Grasshoppe­rs hold on at the top, but it took a try in the dying minutes to pull this result out of the fire, beating Ilkley 24-29 at Stacks Field.

Lymm ran in six tries to defeat Rossendale 10-38. Cormack Nolan led the points tally with two tries and four conversion­s. Other try-scorers for the home side were Matt Connelly, Sam Mularky, Ollie Higginson and Richard McEvoy.

For Rossendale, both their tries came in the later stages of the match from George Peel and Curtis Strong.

Harrogate keep in touch after seeing off

Pocklingto­n 20-40 at Feathers Field. Steve Maycock, Andrew Lawson, Luke Edwards , Neil Minikin and Olli Rodillo were the try-scorers, with Luke White landing four conversion­s. There was also a penalty try.

Jonty Peters ran in two for the home side, as well as slotting a penalty and a conversion. Brother Tom was the other try-scorer.

Birkenhead Park are still at the wrong end of the table, going down 12-35 at home to Sandal, who now move six points clear of the relegation zone. Simon Frewin went in for two, with James Ellar and Tom Allot the other tryscorers. Greg Wood was also on song with three conversion­s and three penalties. Morley’s woes continue after Kirkby Lonsdale took the honours 50-17. Scott Armstrong racked up a hat-trick, with Dave Barton, Stu Story, Harry Ralston and Ryan Terry, who also slotted three conversion­s and three penalties, the other-try scorers.

Hull were 42-7 winners at home to Wirral. Michael Adlard crossed for four tries, with Steve Johnson and Joe Stafford in for one each. Johnson also kicked three conversion­s and two penalties.

In the final game of the round, Billingham were 23-12 winners over Kendal at Mint Bridge.
