Inspired Dudley-Jones back to haunt former club

- ■ By PAUL HOPKINS

ABERAVON edged a titanic battle at the Talbot Athletic Ground against local rivals Swansea.

The lively Wizards winger Mike Wilson looked dangerous every time he was in possession and a typical sprint by the winger forced Rory Gallagher to kill the ball, earning him a yellow card.

The extra man up front told for Aberavon as former All White Rob Dudley-Jones powered over the whitewash from a dominant five metre scrum. Howe and James Garland then traded penalties, both for offside offences.

Moments before half time the visitors had a sniff of the Aberavon line after a well weighted kick by Gareth Walters, who found touch deep inside the twenty-two. However, a well worked lineout by the Wizards ensured they were able to clear the danger.

Following the restart Owen Howe reduced the deficit to four points with a penalty, but soon after he missed an opportunity to make further inroads into the Wizards’ lead by missing a difficult attempt at goal.

An error in midfield by the visitors saw Chris Banfield seemingly race clear to score in the corner, but referee Calum Howard brought back play for a dangerous tackle and

awarded a penalty to the Whites.

Both sides looked to throw the ball about towards the end, but it was Aberavon who prevailed in the end to secure a wellearned victory.
