Neath punished for Smith red card by Carmarthen

- ■ By CARL FIELD

IN-FORM Carmarthen hit struggling Neath for six to extend their 100 per cent winning home record this season.

Fly-half Steff Marshall booted the hosts into an early lead and they were over for the first try after 19 minutes, scored by prop Javan Sebastian, which went unconverted.

Lock Shaun Jones touched down for a second unconverted try on 28 minutes before Neath responded six minutes later through their secondrow Rhys Jones, converted by full-back Geraint Llewellyn.

However, Carmarthen would score again right on the break through outside centre Nicholas Reynolds, Marshall converting to make it 20-7 at half- time.

Outside centre Richard Smith darted through for a second Neath try just after the break but the game turned on the hour mark.

Hooker Sion Crocker was yellow carded on 59 minutes and then Smith, having just been given a yellow himself a minute earlier, then appeared to say something to referee Simon Mills who then produced another yellow and the red card for Smith as a result.

With Neath down to 13, Quins made that advantage pay with a fourth and bonus-point winning try on 65 minutes scored by wing Morgan Griffiths – before flanker Elis Lloyd added a fifth. Replacement Geraint James scored a third Neath try but wing Dale Ford had the final say with a sixth try for the hosts.
