SOUTH Leicester took the honours in a tight encounter when Rickie Aley kicked a drop goal at the death to seal the points.

South opened the scoring in the topsy-turvy clash when Myles Bean was allowed too much space to score after 12 minutes, Aley converting, and they looked comfortable when Adam Shaw went over from a rolling maul shortly after, Aley again converting for a 14-point lead.

The home crowd rallied Luctonians and excellent passes from Sam Boxhall and Alex Smith saw Will Burton cross to bring the home side back into the game, before Joe White’s touch down saw them reduce the margin to just four points at the half-time interval.

The returning Josh Watkins scored with his first touch in the second half to put Lucs 15-14 ahead, but Aley put South back in front with two additional penalties against the run of play.

Lucs went ahead when Piers Morell finished a flowing move created by Loz Breese and Frank Kelly, Will Burton converting. Burton’s penalty extended the hosts’ lead to five points until Brandon Boshi scored late on when Shaw’s long pass put him clear to level the scores with just minutes remaining.

Aley missed the conversion, but his deft touch from the boot in added time gave the away side the points.
