Quins survive late rally to make it six of the best at home

Carmarth’n Q..21 Aberavon ........ 14

- ■ By JAY BAYFORD

CARMARTHEN Quins made it six wins from six games at home with an impressive victory over Aberavon in the Principality Premiership.

Steff Marshall opened the scoring with a welltaken penalty, after missing a kick in the opening minutes. After a sluggish start Aberavon found their rhythm and looked to show their attacking talent but failed to break into Quins’ 22.

However, referee Robert Price handed the Wizards a way back into the game in the shape of a penalty, but Steffen Williams missed the kick.

And he was left to rue that miss seconds before the half-time whistle as Ifan Beynon-Thomas broke free from a few challenges to force the ball over the try line.

Aled Thomas kicked over a penalty early in the second half to edge Quins further ahead, after Marshall had missed with a kick seconds after the restart. Josh Batcup gave the home side breathing space as he darted through a crowd of Aberavon players to bag the hosts’ second try of the game two minutes after coming on before Thomas added another three points.

Jordan Walters then saw yellow for Aberavon before Quins duo Thomas and Batcup followed him to the sin bin. Aberavon took advantage with Shaun Pearce and Ben Jones going over for two converted tries, but Quins denied them a remarkable comeback to take the victory. Star man Jack Price - Carmarthen Quins
