Tata put heat on Narberth with win in Cardiff

SECOND placed Narberth failed to take advantage of the inactivity of Championsh­ip leaders Pontypool as they managed only a losing bonus point in going down to inconsiste­nt Newbridge.

Newbridge won 15-13 having been 10-3 up at the interval, and outscored their visitors two tries to one. Ryan Evans and Lewis Hudd crossed for Newbridge tries with Eamonn Rees kicking a conversion and a penalty while Alex Jenkins scored Narberth’s only try which was converted by Ianto Griffiths, who also hit two penalties.

Narberth stay second, 14 points behind runaway leaders Pontypool.

Tata Steel are now hot on the heels of Narberth just one point adrift after romping to a 44-19 victory over Cardiff Met.

The Steelmen went over for seven tries through Mark Bennett, Craig Leyshon, Jakob Williams, Steffan Stone, Brett Thomas, David Griggs and Scott Malone. Callum Bricknell kicked three conversion­s and one penalty.

Rhys Gealy bagged two tries for the students and Harry Johnston also touched down and landed two conversion­s.

Newcastle Emlyn put on one of their best shows of the season to trounce

Skewen 37-17. Iestyn Crampton secured 22 points through a try, four conversion­s and three penalties. Llyr Davies, Carwyn Rees and Mike Jones also scored for Emlyn.

Richard Davies and Luke Myatt crossed for Skewen tries with Anthony Busselli kicking the rest of the points.

In the lowest scoring game, Bedlinog won 11-7 at

Trebanos thanks to a Rhys Morgan try and two Daniel Parry penalties. This result prevented promoted Trebanos from moving into second place in the table.

All Trebanos could manage was a Sam Davies try converted by Luke Griffiths.

Torrential overnight rain forced the postponeme­nt of the match between basement club Glynneath and mid-table Beddau.
