Tolmie’s double strike sets Cov up for 12th win on trot

- ■ By JOHN WILKINSON

TWO tries in the third quarter from hooker Scott Tolmie saw Coventry push on to their 12th straight win of the season as they extended their lead at the top of the table.

There was only one point between the two sides at half-time, Albion scoring on the whistle to get back to 15-14, but Cov largely controlled the second half as Plymouth were sent home empty-handed.

Cov’s head coach Nick Walshe was delighted with his side’s performance. “Everybody really stepped up today and put in a massive shift,” he said.

“What’s really pleasing is that we’ve got five points and they’ve got none – I still think Plymouth will be our closest rivals at the end of the season so to get that against them is awesome.

“We were disappointed to concede right on halfmidfield time and it’s two exiting errors that put us under pressure for both their tries, but we felt we were in control and went back out with the aim of stopping them scoring again, which we did.

“There’s a long way to go and we’ve just got to keep going and keep our feet on the ground. It wasn’t perfect, and we’ve still got work to do.”

Cov raced in front after three minutes, Anthony Matoto bursting through and Will Maisey firing out a long pass to the left for Max Trimble to go over for an unconverted try.

Maisey added a penalty on 17 minutes as Cov stayed on top, but Albion’s first attack saw Rupert Freestone go over for a try from a catch and drive, which was converted by Dan Mugford, to close out the first quarter.

Tom Kessell squeezed over on the left for Cov’s second try with Maisey converting for a 15-7 lead,
