Midfield combo key for Ospreys

-

ASHLEY Beck hopes his burgeoning midfield partnership with Sam Davies can help the Ospreys climb the table.

Steve Tandy’s men currently sit bottom of Conference A before they host Glasgow this afternoon. Beck starts outside young pivot Davies at the Liberty Stadium for the second successive league game.

“The Edinburgh match was the first time we’d played together since February,” Beck told The

Rugby Paper. “Hopefully Sam and I can have a run of games together and get back to the way we were.

“Sam is a quality player. When he’s confident he attacks the line and he has a big kicking game. It is there for everyone to see how good a player Sam is when his head is on rugby.”

The Ospreys are struggling at the wrong end of the table this season and head coach Tandy is a man under pressure. Paul James captains his team from prop.

Midfield pairing Davies and Beck will be charged with unleashing a dangerous back three of Jeff Hassler, Hanno Dirksen and Dan Evans.

“We have a tough Glasgow team coming down and it’s about returning to winning ways going into Christmas,” said Beck. “Glasgow’s record speaks for itself, but these are the type of games you want to challenge yourself in.”

Unbeaten Glasgow are captained by former Hurricanes openside Callum Gibbins and include Italian No.8 Samuela Vunisa.

“It’s great to get back to the PRO14 after a couple of weeks to refine our game and mentally refresh,” said Glasgow head coach Dave Rennie.
