Llandovery defence secures consecutive victories

- By JAY BAYFORD

LLANDOVERY made it back-to-back wins in the Principality Premiership with victory at Swansea – but they had to hold off a late fightback.

After an opening 15 minutes of Llandovery pressure, the visitors finally broke through with hooker Matthew Moore going over.

Jack Maynard hit the resulting conversion wide but was on target a few minutes later after wing Rhodri Wall burst down the left to dive in the corner.

Swansea then started to find their rhythm but Llandovery worked hard to ensure they kept their 12point lead heading into the break.

Maynard fired over a penalty six minutes after the restart to extend Llandovery’s lead but the hosts refused to give up and fought their way back into the game.

A penalty try just after the hour mark seemed to instill new confidence into the hosts and they put the Llandovery defence under intense pressure.

However, it was Euros Evans’ men who were the next to add points on the board as Maynard was on target with a close-range penalty.

That did little to curb Swansea’s enthusiasm as they continued to move up the pitch and a superb passing move ended with replacement Steff Jones running clear for a moraleboosting try.

Rhys Williams converted to reduce the deficit to four points but Llandovery’s organised defence saw them claim the win.
