Glos-Hart stunned by late Sharks onslaught

- ■ By MOLLY GOODWIN

GLOUCESTER-Hartpury’s poor recent run continued as Darlington Mowden Park Sharks condemned them to their fourth defeat in their last five matches.

Susie Appleby’s side won 32-3 against the Sharks on the opening day of the season but there was to be no repeat as the visitors secured just their third win of the league season.

Yet it had all looked so positive for the home side when they led 24-14 with the game approaching its final quarter.

That was until Darlington turned the game on its head with four tries in 15 minutes to leave the Gillmans Ground with the victory.

Things started well for Gloucester-Hartpury as their pack rumbled over for a pushover try after just four minutes, but they were pegged back on the half hour mark.

The visitors took the lead thanks to a converted Fi Davidson score.

However, GloucesterHartpury’s Mary-Ann Gittings went over just before half-time and converted her own score to give the hosts a 12-7 lead at the break.

The visitors got their noses back in front after 44 minutes through Kat Hobson, but prop Cerys Hale’s try, converted by Gittings, had them 19-14 ahead.

A second for Gittings seemed to have GloucesterHartpury moving in the right direction.

But the visitors clicked into gear in the final 18 minutes, running in four tries through Elle Bloor (2), Heather Kerr and KatyDaley-McLean to leave their opponents stunned.

It was the Sharks’ third win of the season and moved them above Richmond, who play today.
