Gullis hits double as perfect Pooler march on

CLAYTON Gullis was at the double as leaders Pontypool beat Trebanos 24-7 to make it 11 wins out of 11.

A penalty try and Roy Nash were also on the scoresheet for Pooler with Matthew Jones adding a conversion. Sam Davies got the Trebanos try.

Pooler boast a 14-point advantage with a game in hand over nearest challenger­s Narberth at the top of the table, who themselves also bagged a bonus-point in a 34-19 home victory over Cardiff Met.

The students looked to be on their way to a fifth victory of the season as they led 19-10 at the break. Corey Whane, Chris Lewis and Alex Fenton got their tries with George Simpson converting two of them. However they were unable to register in the second half as the home side rallied to earn their eighth win from 12 matches.

Liam Hutchings, Jack Price, Keiron Jones and Rhodri Owens all crossed for Narberth with all four tries converted by Ianto Griffiths who also booted two penalties.

Narberth hold a fivepoint advantage over Tata

Steel in third after they slipped to a 34-24 defeat by Newcastle Emlyn.

Mike Jones grabbed a brace for Emlyn while Dafydd Evans, Teifion Davies and Steff Evans also had their scoring boots on with Ashley Sutton banging over three conversion­s and a penalty.

Richard Carter, Craig Leyshon and a Rhys Taylor brace were the Tata scorers as they had to settle for a bonus-point having been 14-3 to the good at half time.

Elsewhere Lewis Hudd scored a try-double to help send Newbridge to a 14-10 victory at Beddau.

Eamonn Rees converted both tries while Beddau were awarded a second half penalty try as they took a losing bonus point with Zac Byard also kicking a penalty.

It was a sixth win from 12 games for Newbridge who are fifth in the division.

Bedlinog’s clash with bottom side Glynneath and Skewen against Rhydyfelin were postponed.
