Eighth straight defeat for Seven Sisters

MAESTEG Quins continued their perfect start to the season in West Central, earning a 26-5 win over Seven Sisters to move back to the top of the division.

While it was Quins’ seventh straight win, it was an eighth consecutiv­e defeat for Seven Sisters, who remain bottom. Tries from Grant Epton, Michael Owen and Jay Ronan, along with a penalty try, sealed a convincing win. Bridgend Athletic moved up to third thanks to their 22-7 victory at Aberavon Quins who stay 10th. Only one fixture survived the weather in One North, as Bethesda thumped Colwyn Bay.

Gethin Long and Arwyn Griffiths both grabbed hattricks in the 63-0 rout to move off the bottom. Ystrad Rhondda remain top of East Central after their 43-5 win over

Llanharan. Ben Longford was the star of the show with a four-try salvo while Josh Williams, Chris Clayton and Rhys Truelove also went over to help the leaders on their way to another comfortabl­e victory – their ninth of the season – to stretch their lead at the top.

Heol y Cyw remain in trouble at the foot of the table after they suffered a 15-7 defeat to Treorchy who stay third, while

Dinas Powys’ 18-13 win over Rumney saw them go fourth. Porth Harlequins’ game with Rhiwbina was postponed.

Bad weather saw all three games in One East postponed.

In One West, Gowerton missed the chance to move within a point of leaders Dunvant, suffering a shock defeat to Llanelli Wanderers. Tries from Jonathan George, Joe Chiffi and Josh Weeds secured the win for Wanderers to edge them away from trouble at the bottom end of the table. In the day’s other games,

Tenby United beat struggling Tycroes 12-8 thanks to tries from Andrew Crook and Kyle Hamer, while

Penclawdd snatched a 159 win away to Kidwelly to remain comfortabl­y in midtable, moving up one place to sixth in the league.
