Kinghorn shines as Edinburgh prepare for big clash

- ■ By GARY HEATLY

AFTER thumping Krasny Yar at Murrayfield on Friday, Edinburgh captain Fraser McKenzie said there would be “nothing sweeter” than ending Glasgow’s unbeaten PRO14 start to the season on the weekend.

The Warriors head into the two 1872 Cup clashes with 10 wins from 10 to top Conference A. Edinburgh sit fourth in Conference B after six wins and four losses, but have won eight of their last nine in all competitions.

“There would be nothing sweeter than being the team which stopped Glasgow’s run,” McKenzie said.

“We fully respect them, their record speaks for itself, but this is a good task for us. The 1872 Cup always has good games, there’s always a good rivalry there so everyone at Edinburgh is looking forward to it,”

And Edinburgh warmedup for the derby encounter by putting 12 tries past Russians Krasny Yar in a record 78-0 victory that all but sees them through to the last eight with stand-off Blair Kinghorn, 20, impressing with 17 points.

The try spree started within two minutes when Duhan van der Merwe went over on home debut.

Further tries by Chris Dean, Lewis Carmichael, Jamie Ritchie, Kinghorn, Sean Kennedy and Neil Cochrane made it 47-0 at the break.

In the second 40, Darcy Graham, Damien Hoyland, Junior Rasolea, Cammy Fenton and Van der Merwe finished things off.
