Bournemouth undone by last-gasp try

BOURNEMOUTH lost ground in the South West Premier promotion battle after a last-gasp try for Bracknell earned them a 17-17 draw.

Despite Simon Bayliss running in a pair of tries for Bracknell they looked destined to be beaten as they were 17-10 behind going into the closing stages.

However, despite Bracknell going down to 13 men they failed to concede any further points allowing Ben Sanderson to put them level with the last play of the game. Dings Crusaders increased their gap at the top to 12 points following a resounding 54-0 victory over Hornets.

Jake Holecombe and Luke Arscott ran in two tries apiece for the leaders while Martin Wheeler and Harry Tovey added further tries. Newton Abbot stopped the rot which has seen them fall behind the leaders by taking their first victory in four games 16-8 over Weston-super-Mare.

Prop Tom White ran over his side’s only try in the first half with Rob Avery-Wright kicking the conversion and a first-half penalty to put them 10-5 up at half-time.

The second half saw Avery-Wright kick two further penalties as his side ran out victors.

Cleve clinched a 44-33 victory over Maidenhead thanks to doubles from Pierre Tucker and Harry Winks.

Brad Kislingbury and Nick Ward were the men to grab the other tries to seal the bonus point victory.

Exmouth came from behind to grind out a 26-20 victory over Ivybridge.

Luke Markell kicked an early penalty for the visitors before Damon Ackerman grabbed an interception try to put his side 10-0 ahead.

However, Exmouth responded with Sam Richardson bringing them back to 10-7 at half-time.

Exmouth were awarded a penalty try early in the second half only for Robin Luscombe to put Ivybridge 20-14 back ahead.

Lewis Cooper regained the lead for Exmouth before George Meadow crossed for a late fourth try.

Newbury Blues won 23-21 at Lydney. Camborne were 33-13 victors over Brixham.
