Breach is at it again as ‘Wood are well beaten

- ■ By JACK ZORAB

JESS Breach scored a hat-trick as Harlequins kept the heat on Saracens at the top of the table with victory over Firwood Waterloo at Blundellsands.

The nine-try victory – three of which were scored by Breach – maintained the four-point gap between second-placed Harlequins and their north London rivals at the top.

A fast start to the match saw Firwood Waterloo deservedly take the lead through left wing Rebekah Wilson as she skated round the outside, fly-half Beth Stott converting.

Harlequins responded with a perfect training ground move from a fivemetre scrum allowing Holly Myers to touch down.

Their second try came just before the half-hour mark after fine work down both wings, firstly by Breach, and then by Ellie Miles who went over.

Fly-half Rachael Burford missed all three conversions in the first half leaving the score at 7-15.

Quins’ bonus-point try came soon enough through lock Deborah McCormack, after smart footwork down the blindside from Burford.

From here, the visitors cut loose with Breach bursting through from a set play and then rounding the full-back.

Flanker Shaunagh Brown then crossed to round off in style a week which saw her qualify as a firefighter.

Waterloo pulled a try back through scrum-half Mhairi Grieve but Quins responded immediately through Breach.

The next to cross should have been Miles but the winger was tackled high with the referee awarding a penalty try. And substitute Olivia Critchley’s try, converted by Burford, brought up the half century.
