Four-star Gregson leads thrashing of Valkyries

- ■ By GEORGE WEST

BRISTOL made it three consecutive wins after an emphatic win over the Worcester Valkyries.

Lillian Stoeger-Goddard got the first brace of tries of the evening, the first after just three minutes as good hands put her away and the second as Bristol attacked the blind-side from the base of a scrum.

Clara Nielson also got on the scoresheet as did Phoebe Murray who carved her way through the defence after a skewered clearance kick from Worcester’s Rebecca Scholes to seal the four-try bonus point with just 24 minutes on the clock.

Sydney Gregson bagged a double in the first half, her first came on the halfhour mark and her second, shortly after, was one to remember as she set off from 40 metres out and stepped her way past three defenders to score.

That ensured Bristol went into the break 36-0 up after notching six tries.

There was no let up in the second half as Nielson scored off the back of a strong driving maul and their second of the period saw Stoeger-Goddard secure her hat-trick after claiming a superb crossfield kick from Elinor Snowsill.

Gregson took her tally to four as she twice popped up in the right place at the right time running great support lines on both occasions to extend the lead.

Hollie Cunningham got on the board just after the hour as Rhi Parker was stopped just short of the line and the flanker picked powerfully from the base to score.

Amber Reed then raced away to score the 11th try of the game following a superb break from fly-half Snowsill.

Carys Phillips then went over twice in the final ten minutes, either side of a Cat McNaney try.

It was Bristol’s sixth win of the season and they’re now six points behind Wasps in third but the Valkyries’ search for a first win of the year goes on.
