Stade rule in Paris to rock the Scots

- ■ By TOM ROBBINS

STADE Francais held firm in the French capital to ensure their position in the quarter-finals despite a late try from Dougie Fife.

Prop Paul Alo-Emile opened the scoring for Stade from close range after just four minutes with Shane Geraghty adding the conversion for 7-0.

They doubled their try count four minutes later through Jonathan Danty after referral with the TMO.

Shellshocked Edinburgh started making inroads after a series of solid scrums but too often found themselves on the back foot with Stade looking sharp in attack.

After a spell of scramble defence Edinburgh were penalised for not rolling away on 35 minutes but again Geraghty missed his shot at goal.

Jaco van der Walt had a chance to put points on the board for Edinburgh but he too fired wide with his penalty attempt a minute before half-time.

Edinburgh looked a different side in the early exchanges of the second half and finally got points on the board with a try from Damien Hoyland after 53 minutes to bring his side back 12-5, with van der Walt unable to add the extras.

But as Edinburgh pushed for a second try, some slick interplay down the left wing put Sergio Parisse in for Stade to lead 17-5.

Edinburgh kept up the fight and Fife chased down a chip ahead to dribble and then touch down in the corner for a great try.
