Griggs double seesTata climb up the table

TATA Steel took advantage of the top-of-the-table postponeme­nt to climb up to second.

The clash between leaders Pontypool and nearest challenger­s Narberth was called off, which gave Tata the opportunit­y to sneak above Narberth.

Dai Griggs was the star for Tata as he steered his side to a narrow 14-10 victory at Beddau. He grabbed both tries with Callum Bricknell adding the conversion­s.

Marcus Jones hit back for Beddau, who saw Hywel Chatham bag five points from the tee to claim a losing bonus point.

Steel moved two points ahead of Narberth having played one game more. Pontypool’s lead at the top was cut to 17 points as a result but they have two games in hand on Tata.

Trebanos completed the double over fellow promoted side Rhydyfelin with a 7-0 triumph. The score came courtesy of a penalty try.

At the bottom of the table, Glynneath slipped to a 20-7 defeat to Newcastle

Emlyn. James Vardon went over for the struggling club with Jack O’Reilly adding the extras but Emlyn hit back with tries from Dafydd Evans and Emyrs Davies.

Mitchell Jones sealed the win with two conversion­s and two penalties. Fellow strugglers

Skewen were beaten 31-16 at Bedlinog. Luke Myatt went over for Skewen’s only try while Jamie Sturgeon booted the conversion and Andrew Collins struck three penalties.

However, a brace Sam Farrar-Evans saw Bedlinog take control with Aaron Harris and Tyler Oliver following him over to pick up the bonus point. Dan Parry completed the scoring from the tee with four conversion­s and a penalty.

Newbridge also claimed a bonus-point victory as they beat Cardiff Met 26-7. Lewis Hudd was at the double while Paul King and Luke Morgan were also on the scoresheet.
