Brady’s looking for a luckier type of break now

- ■ By NEALE HARVEY

FRUSTRATED Leicester wing Tom Brady is banking on the Anglo-Welsh Cup to kick-start his campaign after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Brady, 26, impressed for Tigers last season after joining from Sale, before a broken leg in April put his career on temporary hold.

Brady told TRP: “I broke it just as we were coming into the play-offs, got fixed up in pre-season and then got a bang and needed another op.

“I developed an infection and one of the screws in the plate came loose, so there were big complications. But I’m through it all now and looking to get regular games.

“Pro sport can be mentally destructive, but I’m a positive bloke and it’s great to be out there again with my mates. I love the highs of winning games and trophies and that’s the light at the end of my tunnel.”

Brady takes his place on the right wing of a side led by experienced centre Matt Smith, but which is otherwise laced with academy products.

George Worth, ostensibly a full-back, will run the show from No.10, while half-back partner Harry Simmons and centre Charlie Thacker are also out to impress.

New Argentinian loosehead Facunda Gigena gets another run off the bench and Tigers’ ranks are bolstered by Doncaster loanees Declan Cusack and Adam Batt.

Brady added: “We’ll have a lot of new faces but we’ll go to Wasps with a positive attitude and try to get the win we need to reach the semis.”

Wasps are out of contention. Hooker Tommy Taylor returns after an ACL injury, while winger Josh Bassett has recovered from a hamstring strain to take a place on the bench in a makeshift line-up.
