Quins secure play-off spot with victory

- ■ By JONTY MAWES

HARLEQUINS ran in 11 tries at Surey Sports Park to secure their place in the play-offs of this year’s Tyrrells Premier 15s.

Harlequins were imperious, both with and without the ball, and put the Worcester Valkyries to the sword in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

After a string of runs from the Harlequins forwards, and a dominant performance at the scrum, captain and No.8 Fiona Fletcher went over for the first try of the match.

Five minutes later Quins had their second, after Holly Myers got on the end of an Aldora Itunu offload, and went in under the posts, giving Ellie Green another simple conversion.

At the 21-minute mark, Itunu then ran a try of her own, her third in two consecutive matches, to make it 21-0.

A piece of individual brilliance from centre Vicky Foxwell from inside her own half opened the Valkyries account at 32 minutes.

The Londoners responded immediately, first with a try from Itunu, and then from Shaunagh Brown, minutes before half-time.

But there was still time for wing Megan Brown to run in for a score in the right-hand corner.

Quins crossed the tryline again on 55 minutes through Itunu, who completed her hat-trick.

Replacement Fiona Fletcher made an instant impact going over for her first try.

The tries then started to rain down as McCarthy ran in two further scores, along with Chloe Edwards and Brown.

The final score showed a truly dominant performance from Harlequins.
