Brummies looking good at the summit

BIRMINGHAM & Solihull cemented their spot at the top of the Midlands Premier with a convincing 29-3 win over Newbold-onAvon away from home. Newbold opened up the scoring with a penalty after three minutes, but that did not stop the rampant Brummies, with Steve Johns and Zane Raimondi running in two tries in the first half.

Johns notched his second score after the restart, with Jevan Hinds and Ben Phillips both touching down, with Max Rodman and Jack Jolley scoring a conversion each.

Lions, who came back from the dead to beat

Nuneaton 21-20 in a thrilling game at Liberty Way.

Nuneaton were winning 20-7 after a clinical first half and continued to pile on the pressure.

However, with 20 minutes to go, Thomas Dougherty and Dan Malan both crossed, both converted by Nico Defeo, to secure the win, and open a tenpoint game up on third-placed Newport, who saw off Sandbach at home 24-18.

Elsewhere, Bridgnorth saw off Lichfield 43-26. Danny Griffiths, Richard Addison, Jordan Burgess, Joe Cave and Ed John all ran in tries for the away side. Four of the tries were converted by Llew

Williams, who also scored three penalties in a clinical display with the boot to wrap up the game.

Elsewhere, Bournville rode out victorious after an enthrallin­g game away to Longton.

Longton went 26-0 up inside 20 minutes after some clinical play, before James Whybrow and Henry Hughes scored a try apiece to bring it back to 2614 at half-time.

Mark Coulson crossed for Bournville just after the restart, but Longton hit back with three tries of their own to make the score 26-19.

However, Bournville then went up a gear, with Henry Hughes crossing twice to secure his hat trick, Tom Jarvis bagging another for his brace and Warren Oliver touching down with the final try, to secure the 45-43 win with five minutes to go.

Elsewhere, Scunthorpe trounced Old Halesonian­s 97-24, while Doncaster

Phoenix defeated Derby 38-33.
