Marshall’s penalty ensures Quins share the spoils

- By DEAN JONES Star man Iolo Evans – RGC

THIS clash in Colwyn Bay between two of the title chasers ended in a thrilling draw.

In an even opening, Jacob Botica fired a penalty narrowly wide for the Gogs before Steffan Marshall kicked the Quins ahead after 13 minutes.

This provoked a strong response from Mark Jones’ side, who took control for long periods.

They were rewarded when centre Tom Hughes darted through to score, and Botica landed the conversion.

Quins hit back and got their noses in front when a surging drive resulted in Richard Bloomfield touching down, with Marshall adding the extras.

Bloomfield was sent to the sin bin just before the interval, and RGC took full advantage when the impressive Evans crossed the line for an unconverted score.

In the second half, Quins came out and began with a superb passage of play on 41 minutes.

Dylan Morgans burst clear to score and Marshall fired over the conversion.

Back came the Gogs with a sustained period of pressure.

It led to full-back Dion Jones continuing his scintillating run of form with another superb try on 52 minutes, and Botica extended their lead with a penalty on 64.

Marshall rescued something for Quins late on with a penalty on 78 minutes to ensure both sides had something to show for their efforts.
