Captain Vooght sets up second half show

- ■ By CAMERON TEMPLE

A QUIET first half followed by an explosive second half performance secured a 24 15 victory for the Rams.

Proud head coach Seb Reynolds said: “Wimbledon had a very strong side out and we knew exactly how dangerous they could be.

“Our boys dealt with them with good set-pieces, a good defensive foundation and some clinical attacking play.”

The first half lacked dynamism with the only try of the half coming from Robbie Stapley after fine work from Joe Duffelen and Conor Corrigan.

With the conversion missed, the Rams went into half-time with a slender 5-3 lead. The second half began in similar fashion to that of the first with neither side able to make an impact.

However, ten minutes in the Rams won a penalty 5m out, from which they have been dangerous all season, and once again converted with No.9 Oli Cole taking the ball out the back of the scrum and scoring down the blindside.

The Rams continued to dominate as they relentlessly came forward with captain Tom Vooght securing another two tries and the bonus point following a series of pick up and drives in both cases.

Wimbledon enjoyed a late surge with two triesfrom Jack Flanagan and Alfie Dudman-Jones in the final five minutes – but ultimately it was too little, too late as the Rams secured yet another victory, continuing their brilliant season
