Langdon leaves it late as Pirates steal it

Bowl & Plate round-up

- By CARL FIELD

ONE East leaders Brynmawr needed extra time to see off a brave Nelson 2724 to claim their place in the WRU National Plate final at the Principality Stadium.

After a tense 80 minutes at Llanharan, the score was locked at 24-24 with both sides going over three times.

Gavin Knapp, Geraint Langdon and Rob Norris went over for Brynmawr and Lloyd Ford, Alec Jones and Josh Williams touched down for Nelson.

Danny Ellis kicked seven points from the tee for Nelson with Ross Jones kicking a conversion but that was matched by Langdon, who then proved to be the match winner with an extra-time penalty to seal Brynmawr’s passage to the showpiece. And they will meet Nant

Conwy in the final as the One North leaders managed to see off last year’s beaten finalists Ystalyfera 10-0 at Llanidloes.

Ystalyfera were denied the title last season in heart-breaking fashion as Penallta claimed the trophy on try count following a 1616 draw but Ystalyfera won’t get the chance to put that right this season as Ifan Pyrs went over for 2012 finalists Nant Conwy while Arthur Lennon added the rest from the tee.

Meanwhile, Porthcawl sealed their place in the final of the WRU National Bowl after coming from behind to beat Abercwmboi 23-20 at Taffs Well. Josh White kicked three penalties for the Seaweeds but Three West Central A leaders Abercwmboi led 209 with eight minutes left to go thanks to tries from Matthew Jones, Lee Jarvis and Tom Owens, as well as five points from Jordan Rees.

But Porthcawl rallied and fought back with Gareth Rees and Owen Thomas both going over in the final few minutes and Ben Thomas added both conversions to send Porthcawl for a day out in the capital. Their opponents will be

Cardiff University who beat Pembroke 32-12 at Dunvant. Harry Griffiths, Dan Hospetler, Luke Waller, Jack Alford and Tudor Forbes all going over .
