Ravens spread their wings with ten-try rampage

- By PAUL HOPKINS Star man Shaun O’Rourke - Bridgend

BRIDGEND continued their impressive run with a ten-try win over Bargoed.

The Ravens’ first try came in fortuitous circumstances through an Aaron Grabham interception.

A second followed when Nathan Edwards popped up in midfield to crash over the line, though Bargoed hit back immediately with Darren Humphries touching down. And the scores were level when Ashley Norton used his pace to sprint clear of the defence.

An outstanding 30-metre break by Shaun O’Rourke sent Jonny Phillips through to score Bridgend’s third try, but Gareth Harvey was yellow-carded for a late challenge and from the resulting penalty scrum Luke Smalley squeezed over.

Bridgend retook the lead through the returning Harvey and five minutes into the second half the Ravens backline spread the ball out wide for Mike Powell to score.

The tries kept coming and a break by Grabham sent Stuart Floyd-Ellis strolling through the Bargoed defence to score and Powell grabbed his second just minutes later.

Bargoed refused to give up and used hooker Lewys Lippiett as a battering ram to score a bonus-point try, but a mistake let in Grabham for his second try.

James Locke scored a consolation try for Bargoed following a calamitous penalty kick by James Murphy, but Connor Tantum scored a late brace of tries for the home side as they saw out the win.
