WOMEN’S DIVISION 1
Yorkshire 52 - 0 Surrey
YORKSHIRE scored eight tries in a comfortable 52-0 victory over Surrey in the Division One final of the Gill Burns Women’s County Championship.
It was the first time the final had been played at Twickenham and Yorkshire rose to the occasion.
They made the perfect start through Lauren Bolger after a brilliant break from Sarah Dunn to give them a 5-0 lead.
Bolger got her second just a few minutes after, sprinting down the wing to dot down and extend her side’s lead.
Dunn scored her first try after 20 minutes with Yorkshire finding gaps in Surrey’s defence. Claire Garner added the extras to make it 17-0.
Centre Emma Hardy showed Yorkshire’s threats in the midfield with a scintillating break after 30 minutes to score Yorkshire’s fourth try of the game. Garner converted to give her side a 24-0 lead.
Winger Rosie Blunt showed impressive speed just minutes later to score Yorkshire’s fifth with Garner once again converting.
The try gave Yorkshire a comfortable 31-0 scoreline going into the break.
Yorkshire started the second half in much the same way with flying winger Jodie Ounsley scoring a brilliant try with her first touch of the ball. Garner converted to bring the score to 38-0 with 41 minutes gone.
Dunn scored her second of the game soon after with Hardy stepping in to take the conversion with the final try of the game coming through replacement Savannah Andrade after the ball was skewed wide.
