Playoffs essential while clubs still lose internationals

- LINDA PAYNE Oakham JOHN OAKENFULL Horton

IN response to Jeff Probyn’s article about him not understanding why there are four team play-offs at the end of the season:

I, too, used to think that was not right until I looked at who was playing in the Six Nations and other international games. There were a number from Saracens, Wasps and Harlequins for example which meant there were times when those teams were not playing with their full compliment of top players.

Teams that had all their players for the full season could practice as a team and maintain consistency throughout the season. Teams that have a large proportion of their players missing for chunks of the season do not have that privilege so they are penalised for no other reason than having international players.

I now agree with the play-offs.

However, I do believe that whoever wins the league should receive some silverware, maybe a silver plate or shield because we cannot deny that they have done well.

Well done Exeter and to previous clubs who have experienced the same scenario. HOW very true were the comments in Ed Butcher’s letter last week. A top six play-off, what nonsense.

Last season, Exeter finished eight points above Saracens, 14 points above Wasps and 22 points above Newcastle.

How can i possibly be fair that Exeter were not the true champions of the Premiership.

I wish there was some way to scrap the play-off system.
