Petchey strikes for Otley derby delight

- By NICK DOYLE

PAUL Petchey ensured Otley pulled off a dramatic last-minute win in the West Yorkshire derby, having been under the cosh for most of the second half.

The winger ran in from his own half after a Ben Magee kick to stun Huddersfield, who had piled on the pressure in the second half.

In a light drizzle, Huddersfield had the early initiative although Otley’s Ben Smith opened the scoring with a penalty after a deliberate knock-on after three minutes, doubling it on ten when the visitors failed to roll away.

A deft Joe Graham pass in his own half put Stephen Nolson off to score in the left-hand corner. Huddersfield were starting to get into the game though, a Will Milner penalty reducing the deficit.

The visitors then dominated the second half, Elliot Knight coming close after sprinting down the left hand flank until he was tacked by Magee. In the ensuing skirmish, Magee gained a yellow card. Then after 46 minutes, the visitors worked the ball across the Otley defence, Lewis Bradley slipping through from some 20 metres.

They levelled the scored after further pressure, Otley were penalised for coming in at the side and Milner stepped up.

But as they pushed for a win, it was Otley who had the final say as Petchey’s last-gasp try secured the victory and bragging rights for the home side.
