Luctonians on fire in Syston thrashing

LUCTONIANS continued their stunning start to the season with a 64-7 thrashing of Syston.

After hammering Lichfield 73-14 last week the Herefordsh­ire side produced another demolition job, scoring ten tries in the bumper home victory.

The floodgates opened on 15 minutes when Joe White crossed the whitewash. Isaac Fanuel then scored his first try for the club before a Tom Jones brace was followed by further scores from Sam Boxhall and Rob Crowley. .

Will Burton scored Lucs’ seventh try before Adam Nunney went over with Laurie Harries converting to get Syston off the mark.

But Lucs finished with a flourish as Drew Cheshire, Josh Watkins and Loz Breese struck to keep their side at the top of the table.

Newport (Salop) stay in second position after claiming a 45-19 victory at

Lichfield while Scunthorpe also made it two wins from two with a 36-3 triumph at Burton.

Only eight points separated the two sides at half-time with Will Robinson’s try the difference for Scunthorpe.

A Colin Chapman try and a Paul Cook penalty extended the visitors’ lead to 16-0 before Burton closed the gap with a three pointer from Will Simpson.

But Scunthorpe’s forwards were on top and they helped seal the victory as Grant Elliott and Dave Garbutt crashed over before Eddie Newsum scored.

Derby bounced back from last week’s 43-25 defeat to Nuneaton with a 12-11 win over Sandbach.

All the points came in the first period as Benny Elliot landed two penalties and Elliot Morris scored a try for Sandbach.

But tries from Josh Tizard and Ben Marsden with George Castledine converting one of those gave Derby the edge before playing out an set-piece

heavy second half.

Afeafe Haisila Lokotui bagged 11 points including a try as Bridgnorth beat

Bournville 21-14. Haloti Molitika and Will Bishop also crossed for Bridgnorth while Bournville responded with converted tries from Jonjo Fanning and Ejike Uzoigwe

Elsewhere, Broadstree­t defeated Sheffield 13-0 thanks to a Chris Easton try and Doncaster

Pheonix beat Nuneaton 24-7.
