BRACKNELL scored a host of tries as they clinched their first victory of National League 3 South West thanks partly to a haul of six scores by the game’s outstandin­g player, Cam McDonald.

It took just two minutes for Sam Hardcastle to take the lead for the hosts before he was in again after 16 minutes with an intercepti­on try to put his 14-0 ahead.

Renwick also got in on the try act before Barnstaple reacted with a penalty and then a converted try to bring the score to 21-10 at

half-time. Barnstaple pulled the score back to four points with a converted try before Michael Pope and Adam Higgins sealed the victory with two further tries.

Brixham also took their first victory of the season with a 44-13 victory over

Newton Abbot, with power up front and precision in the backs.

Jamie Hext scored a glut of tries for the hosts with Sam Thomas also on the scoresheet before Connor Bedwell snatched a late brace for himself as the Newton Abbot defence fell to pieces. Meanwhile, Cambourne clinched a 23-20 win over Maidenhead despite tries from Sam Hallett, George Blewitt and Kieran Grey scoring tries.

Maidenhead’s kicker Adam Lubbock scored a penalty and conversion but his side were beaten.

Paul Vinicombe made his 50th first appearance for Cleve but couldn’t help his side as Ivybridge ran away 29-22 victors.

Drybrook took their first victory in the South West Premier by a single point against Exmouth 1817 .

The visitors scored a penalty try on 12 minutes before Ben Cullen went over again on the 46th minute but fell to defeat. Meanwhile Exeter University have made the move into the South West Premier look easy as they continued their momentum with a 31-28 victory over Weston-super-Mare in a game full of action.
