Evans in hot pursuit of former Wales U20 graduates
JARROD Evans hopes to be the next player off Jason Strange’s Wales production line.
Former Wales U20 coach Strange has played an integral role in the development of current internationals Josh Adams, Adam Beard, Owen Watkin and Seb Davies.
Talented young fly-half Evans is now working with Strange at Cardiff Blues and hopes he can help him fulfil his aim of graduating to Warren Gatland’s senior side.
“Jason has helped bring through the next generation of Wales internationals,” said the 22-year-old Evans, below.
“He coached a large percentage of the Blues squad over a two or three-year period at age grade level and it’s made it a lot easier for him coming into this region.
“I’m just going to try and play as well as I can for the Blues, but it is definietely an ambition of mine to play for Wales.”
Evans was one of the Blues’ star performers last season as he guided his side to European Challenge Cup glory and he started the new campaign with a stand out display against Leinster.
He missed out on selection for Wales’ summer tour to Argentina which also took in a Test against South Africa in Washington, but is remaining upbeat.
The young playmaker hopes to take the Blues – who are under the guidance of new head coach John Mulvihill – to new heights this season.
“It wasn’t really a disappointment to miss out on the summer squad,” Evans said. “Outside-halves are going to make errors it’s about making your next involvement a positive one.
“I’ll just try and build on last season and it’s all about the Blues, but if my performances are good enough to take me further, then great.”
