Mighty Quins find the key to victory with strong opening

- By JONATHAN TWIGG

THE 26th meeting of Carmarthen Quins and Cross Keys resulted in a bonuspoint victory for the West Walians.

Playing with the elements at their back, winger Dylan Reynolds caught the kick-off, made ground and, after several driving plays, flanker Ed Siggery burrowed over.

Full-back Aled Thomas converted for a 7-0 lead.

Further converted tries followed from openside flanker Ellis Lloyd and winger Dale Ford before Cross Keys skipper Damien Welch won key lineout ball and prop Gerald Ellis touched down under the posts for fly-half Jason Tovey to convert.

The bonus-point try came before half-time with scrum-half Liam Davies on the shoulder of a strong run from winger Dylan Morgans for a 28-7 lead.

Thomas landed a 40metre penalty a minute after the restart.

Rampant Quins added two unconverted tries through Morgans and replacement hooker Thomas Ball before the visitors were awarded a penalty try.

Then, with ten minutes remaining, full-back Leon Andrews found space to run in unopposed for Tovey to convert.

A losing bonus point came their way when replacement Taylor Hansen controlled the ball at the base of the scrum and thundered over from three metres for a converted try.

It’s now won one, lost one for both sides so far.
