Double from Hadfield as Dugdale stars

- By ALLAN FOSTER

FYLDE outplayed North West rivals Macclesfield with a much-improved performance from their display a week ago as they ran out big winners.

Fly-half Greg Smith kicked two early penalties for the hosts before their free-flowing running began to cut holes in the visitors’ defence as three tries in each half put them in control of the match.

Tries by winger Tom Grimes, debutant flanker Sam Dugdale and Tom Carlton in the first half were added to by two for winger Henry Hadfield and one for Connor Wilkinson after the break.

Smith had a good day with his kicking and the only setback was a serious ankle injury to the very promising young scrumhalf Cameron Crampton, who was stretchered off.

The game proved to be a stunning debut for Sale

Sharks’ Dugdale, who is with Fylde on a dual registration basis, with the backrower setting up the first try for Grimes.

Ten minutes later Dugdale’s 30m burst took him through the Macclesfield defensive line again, but this time he scored near the posts, with Smith converting for a 20-3 lead. Carleton, who filled in for Crampton at scrum-half, then scored a superb individual try before Hadfield’s secondhalf brace and Wilkinson sealed victroy for Fylde, with Samuel Moss grabbing a consolation try for the visitors who battled until the end.
