Russians given ten-try thrashing by French

LA ROCHELLE continued with their superb form in Pool 4 when they thrashed

Enisei-STM 64-26. The Top 14 outfit outscored their visitors by ten tries to four.

Romaric Camou led the way with a brace and their other tries were scored by Paul Jordaan, Jone Qovu Nailiko, Brieuc PlessisCou­illaud, Kevin Gourdon, Thomas Berjon, Jean Charles Orioli, Mohamed Boughanmi and Gregory Alldritt.

Maxime Lafage finished with a 12-point haul courtesy of six conversion­s and Ihaia West also succeeded with one kick off the tee.

For Enisei-STM, Uldis Saulite scored two tries and Alexey Shcherban and Sergey Sekisov also dotted down. Yury Kushnarev added three conversion­s.

In Pool 5, Agen were made to work hard before claiming a narrow 20-19 victory over Benetton.

The Italian side raced into a 12-0 lead thanks to two tries from Luca Bigi and a Tomasso Allan conversion.

Antoine Miquel then crossed for Agen and Jake McIntyre slotted the conversion and a penalty which meant Benetton held a 12-10 lead at half-time.

The visitors struck back with a Iliesa Ratuva try, converted by Allan, but Agen finished stronger and a penalty from McIntyre as well as a conversion from him – after Yoan Tanga’s try – sealed the win.

Clermont Auvergne followed up last weekend’s win over Northampto­n with a 70-12 drubbing of Timisoara Saracens.

Tries from Peceli Yato (2), Peter Betham, Apisai Naqalevu (3), Setariki Tuicuvu (3) proved too much for the Romanians, who scored through Mesake Dodge and Luke Samoa.

Pau bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Ospreys with a 21-15 victory over Stade Francais.

Julien Blanc, a penalty try and three penalties from Antoine Hastoy proved too much for the visitors, who scored through Jimmy Yobo and Piet van Zyl.

Bordeaux-Begles and Perpignan played out a 25-25 draw. Jefferson Poirot, Adrien Pelissie and Jules Gimbert got the tries for Bordeaux-Begles, while Shahn Eru bagged a brace for the visitors.
